Talking to some of the BlueStamp Engineering Students
Today I got the unique opportunity to stop by BlueStamp Engineering, a summer enrichment program for aspiring engineers. Dave Young, the co-founder and Chief Engineering Officer is a fellow blogger at the element14 Do-It-Yourself blog, and is a Electrical Engineer based out of Ithaca (he lives nearby Cornell, where I attend college). Dave explained the concept for the program to me several months ago, and it sounded really exciting. Naturally, I jumped at the opportunity to swing by and check out today. There are a total of 10 highschool students each working on independent engineering projects. The projects range from GPS trackers to wind turbines to robotic arms. I was admittedly a bit jealous; I would have loved to participate in a program like this prior to going to college. It’s like a summer hackerspace for highschoolers – genius!
So I stopped by, gave a 10 minute talk about some of the stuff I’ve been working on (somewhat similar to my Ignite Ithaca Talk), and then answered questions on topics ranging from choosing a college to finding inspiration for a project. I then spent some time checking out the projects that everybody had been working on, and tried to lend some advice where I could. I only wish I had more time so I could help out some more! Oh well, maybe I’ll stop by again…
