This is the age of the maker. There is no denying that at this time in human history, makers have the power to do extraordinary things – building social networks that connect billions of people, designing new medical technologies that save lives, and creating cars that can drive themselves.

I recently returned from a trip to India, where I was invited to present some of my research from Cornell’s Creative Machines Lab at the 2013 Techkriti Festival at IIT Kanpur. I was joined by astronauts, TV hosts, world-famous architects, and other students from around the world.
MakerBot Digitizer Announcement
At SXSW this past week, MakerBot announced the Digitizer, a personal 3D scanner that, when paired with the MakerBot Replicator, will allow you literally “copy” real-world objects. I designed the electronics and firmware for the prototype that was displayed at SXSW.

The “Idea to Innovation Flowchart” is now Available for Sale
The “Idea to Innovation Flowchart” is a poster that I’ve been working on with an illustrator for a few months. After getting lots of feedback, I’m really excited to announce that it is now available for sale. It makes a great wall decoration for your home or office!
National Bus Tour Debrief
I recently completed an epic, once-in-a-lifetime cross-country bus trip from Ithaca, NY to San Francisco, CA. We stopped at six schools along the way to pick up other college students, and we led educational workshops for K-12 schools at each stop to teach students about various aspects of sustainability. The tour ended in San Francisco where I attended the GreenBuild Conference and Expo.
I’m Travelling Across the Country. On a Bus!
Cornell University Sustainable Design and the US Green Building Council have partnered up to organize a cross-country bus tour. The tour started at Cornell University and will end at the International GreenBuild Conference and Expo in San Francisco, California. Along the way, I, along with other CUSD members and college students from around the country will be teaching K-12 students about the importance of sustainable design.

Open Sourcing the LibeTech QR Code Lock System
A few months ago I developed a beaglebone-based QR Code door lock system. Check into a room online, and a QR code is sent to your phone to act as your key. Just hold it up to the door! I’m releasing this project under an open source license so you can build it yourself.
